Jean S. Ruckdeschel, 89, was granted her angel wings on Thursday, April 17, 2014, after a brief illness.
Jean was born on Feb. 7, 1925, to Charles and Josephine Garaci, in Jamesburg, N.J., the sixth of seven children. She was a loving and happy person who always saw the cup as half full. Everyone who met her was touched by her sweet nature. She loved her children equally and unconditionally.
Jean enjoyed outings to the casino, and visits with family and friends. She was a loyal San Francisco 49ers fan since she moved to California in 1977. In her youth, she sewed parachutes for the troops during World War II. Jean worked in the food services industry most of her later life, waitressing at the former Muffin Treat restaurant in Fairfield. She was a proud past president of the Fairfield Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #4113, Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her sister, Katherine Haraz of Spotswood, N.J.; daughters, Lee Ann Rust, of Woodland, Calif., and Pat Cole, of Orange, Texas; and son, Albert Mendel, Jr. of Albertville, Ala; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her sweet, feathered companion, “BooBoo,” and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
A Mass and memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Holy Family Old Catholic Church, (St Mark’s chapel building), 1600 Union Ave., Fairfield, Calif., 94533.
Flowers may be delivered between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m., and donations to the church may be gifted by mail or at the service in her honor.
