James “Jim” Malcolm Stewart, 85, of Rio Vista, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, after a short battle with cancer.
Jim was born to the late Harry and Vera Stewart, June 6, 1928, in Sacramento. Jim graduated from Rio Vista High School in 1946 and then graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a degree in agriculture. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He married the late Jacqueline Ann Nichols Stewart on Nov. 3, 1951. They lived in Rio Vista with their three children.
Jim spent his entire life as a farmer on Ryer Island. It was his passion. He loved nothing more than driving the fields and spending time at the “Ranch.” Jim sold his business, James M. Stewart, Inc. in 2011.
He is survived by his son, Scott James Stewart; and daughter-in-laws, Demi Stewart and Jacqueline Stewart. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Alexis, Sutton, Laney, Bryte, Malcolm and Kerrison; and one great-grandchild, Ruby. Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jacqueline Ann Nichols Stewart; daughter, Ann Stewart Brown; and son, Bryte Nichols Stewart.
Jim was an avid animal lover, so in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the SPCA or the Rio Vista Museum.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 at his home, 195 Edgewater Drive in Rio Vista.
