James Barbour

James L. Barbour passed away Monday, March 17, at the Loma Linda VA Medical Center, at the age of 93.

He was surrounded by his loving family. Jim was a longtime resident of Suisun City before moving to Southern California. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years. He then worked for the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Jim was manager of the Fairfield DMV Office. He was a member of the Fairfield Free Will Baptist Church, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Suisun Senior Center.

Jim was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Thelma Winafred Barbour; daughter, Lynne M. Barbour; granddaughter, Patricia Lynne Barbour; and grandson, Frederick J. Duebbers. Jim is survived by six children, Dianne Allison, James A. Barbour (Carol), Richard C. Barbour (Marie), Patricia Duebbers, Michael A. Barbour and Christopher J. Barbour (Billie). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service in Suisun City will follow at a future date.

He spent 24 years as a sports editor, associate editor and news editor before leaving the Daily Republic in 2014. Brad lives in Suisun City with his wife, Mrs. Brad, and two sons. He enjoys cheese.

    Feel very fortunate to have known Jim for so many years. He was truly a wonderful man, I will cherish the memories I have of time spent with him. Condolences to the family.

    MANY OF THE CHILDREN OF FAIRFIELD AND SUROUNDING AREA WILL REMEMBER JIM FOR BEING THE MAN THAT GAVE THEM A GIDEON TESTAMENT FROM THEIR SCHOOL DAYS. 'WORDS OF WISDOM AND LOVE" EVERYONE THAT KNEW JIM AND WIN HAVE BEEN BLESSED. WE ALL HAVE AWESOME MEMORIES OF OUR LIVES TOGETHER. YOUR REWARD IS IN HEAVEN. FOREVER AND EVER SAM AND ALICE

    James was a member and active participant in the American Legion Reams Post 182 in Suisun City. We are all saddened to hear of his passing, and wish to express our sincere condolances to the entire family. James has served his country and his community well, and he will be missed.
