James L. Campi Sr. (Jim), 71, died Saturday, March 2, 2013. He was born to the late Stanley and Nancy Campi on Aug.19, 1941, and was a lifelong resident of the Fairfield/Green Valley/Cordelia area.
Jim graduated from Armijo High School in 1959 and decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy. After serving his country, he went to Napa Junior College, where he met his wife Cheryl, and then on to California State University, Sacramento, to continue his education. Jim then worked over 30 years for the California State Automobile Association as a top salesperson, achieving sales star multiple times.
Leading others and serving his community was Jim’s passion. He dedicated the majority of his life to the fire service, contributing as a firefighter with various departments for nearly 50 years, culminating with his appointment to Fire Chief of the Cordelia Fire Protection District in 1990. Jim also served as president of the Solano County Fire Chief’s Association and was on the board of directors for Cordelia Fire Protection District. He also served five years as area coordinator of the Solano County Office of Emergency Services.
Aside from the fire service Jim gave back to the community in countless ways. He was elected to two terms on the Fairfield Suisun Unified School District Governing Board, including serving as President. He also held the position of chairman of the Rockville Cemetery District Board for 38 years and was appointed to president of the California Association of Public Cemeteries. Jim was a 42-year member and past president of the F.a.S.T. Lions club, 34-year member of Native Sons of the Golden West, 20-year member of the Sons of Italy, and served as director of the Green Valley Home Owners Association.
In his free time, Jim loved to hunt, play golf and spend time with family and friends. He was a member of Green Valley Country club for decades. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cheryl; sons, James Jr. (Theresa), Michael (Tori);and grandchildren Sarah, Jackson, Luke and Emily.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo. Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1050 N. Texas St., Fairfield. Burial will follow at Rockville Cemetery, 4219 Suisun Valley Road, Fairfield.
