It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Harvey Kaplow passed away on Jan. 21, 2013.
Harvey was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and soon after an honorable discharge, began a career with Meyer’s Jewelers. In 1968, Harvey began a second career when he bought Morgan’s Coffee shop in downtown Vacaville and achieved a lifelong dream of owning his own business. He continued his love of cooking in the restaurant business when he later bought Dawson’s Café in Dixon in 1974, where he remained until he sold the business and retired in 2002.
Harvey’s greatest joys included spending time with his grandchildren, playing poker and cooking for his family and friends. Harvey will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lois Kaplow; his daughters, Wendy Colvin (Rick), Debra Kaplow; son, David Kaplow; granddaughters, Katie Smith (Ryan), Megan Colvin; nephew, David Waite (Marcy); and niece, Sarah Lattanza (John).
His parents, Harvey Sr. and Belle Kaplow; and his sister, Joan Waite; preceded Harvey in death.
For friends and family a memorial service and reception will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, at the Hampton Inn, 800 Mason St., in Vacaville. A private burial service was held Wednesday, Jan. 23.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society or Chabad of Solano County, 1144 Vintage Court, Vacaville, CA 95688.
