Harry Wayne Rhodes will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Harry was born Oct. 13, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United State Army, where he went to jump school and earned his parachute wings. He was stationed in Japan in 1949, where he met a beautiful young Japanese woman who would become the love of his life. Harry and Toni (Mineko) were married Jan. 5, 1951. Harry and Toni were stationed in different states and countries where their children Martha, Bill, Judy, Nina and Cindy were born. After 21 years of military service, he began a second career of 20 years at Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. Harry finally slowed down when he retired and concentrated on bothering Toni full time. Toni would use the term “old goat” more than once during their 62 years of marriage.
Harry and Toni’s greatest sadness was the death of their daughter, Judy. The years would pass, his children grew up and had children of their own, giving him nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. On Harry’s birthday, Oct. 13, 2013, an accident occurred and he was rushed to David Grant Medical Center, near his home. Sadly, Harry passed away on Oct. 15, 2013. His family and friends gathered around him and said a final goodbye. Eighty-five years is a long life . . . 95 would have been better. Harry is now gone but his family and friends will always remember him for his toughness, sense of humor, generosity, “old goatness” and his gentleness. His friendship was not given easily but when it was given it was unconditional and you became part of the family.
We are sad, but we also want to celebrate the fact that he was a huge part of our lives as a husband, a father, a brother, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, an uncle and a friend!
A private ceremony will be held for family and friends.
