George Eastburn Parkhurst III, 66, of Fairfield, passed away at home Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, after a battle with pancreatic and liver cancer.
He was born March 5, 1947, to the late George and Wanda Parkhurst in San Jose, Calif., and graduated from Blackford High School in 1965. After serving as a meteorologist in the Army during the Vietnam War, he came back to work as a draftsman for AT&T. He married Pamela Ann Shifflett in 1971. They had just celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary three days before his passing.
George retired after 30 years in 1999 and enjoyed traveling across the United States, fine dining and classic cars. One of his favorite events to attend each year was Hot August Nights in Reno, Nev., and his prize possession was a 1959 Pontiac Bonneville.
He leaves behind his wife, Pamela; daughter, Stacy Rose (husband James); son, Eric (wife Jessica); grandchildren Hunter and Logan Rose; brother, John (wife Tammy); mother-in-law, Georgia Shifflett; sister-in-law, Martha Runnels (husband Larry); nephew, John (wife Sally); and nieces, Jennifer Roberts, Jessica Runnels, Georgina Bottcher and Elizabeth Runnels.
He was preceded in death by his son, George Parkhurst IV.
George will be remembered and loved by all that knew him. A graveside service will be held at noon on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Los Gatos Memorial Park in San Jose, Calif.
