JHenry

Dec. 15, 1951 – Dec. 7, 2013

Edwin “Jay” Henry passed away surrounded by family at David Grant Medical Center on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013.

Jay was born in Pendleton, Ore., on Dec. 15, 1951, to Gilbert “Gib” Edward Henry and Audrey Rosemary Dewey and was the second of three children. He spent his childhood in Woodland, Calif., and graduated from Woodland High School in 1970. After serving 20 years as a physician’s assistant in the United States Air Force, Jay continued to practice in the Vacaville and Fairfield community. For the past 11 years, he was employed with the Inter Community Medical Group. Jay was well-known for the compassionate care that he provided to his patients, who often considered him family.

Jay volunteered in many different capacities as a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church community at TAFB. Throughout his life and many accomplishments, he was most proud of being a loving husband, father and grandfather. Jay loved the outdoors and spent many years travelling, golfing, camping, hunting, gardening and fishing. He was also an avid reader and master cook.

Awaiting Jay in heaven is his daughter, Jennifer Kaye Henry; his mother, Audrey; and his father, Gib.

Jay is survived by his wife of 33 years, Louise; and children, Jessica (David) Ahl of Tyler, Minn., Melissa of Washington, D.C., and Nathan of Santa Barbara, Calif. He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Gloria (Roger) Hahn; brother, Steven; nephew, Aaron; niece, Laurel (Angel); and great nephew, Myles. Jay’s grandchildren held a special place in his heart, Jocelyn, Annie and Dana. He is also remembered by many friends, whom he considered family.

Special thank you to Dr. JD Lopez and the staff at the NorthBay Cancer Center for their exceptional, patient-centered care. The family would also like to thank the skilled nurses and doctors of David Grant Medical Center for their professionalism and expertise in caring for Jay.

Visitation services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Nadeau Family Funeral Home, 180 E. Monte Vista Ave., in Vacaville, with a rosary service beginning at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service and luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at the Twin Peaks Chapel of St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Travis Air Force Base. For those who would like to attend his funeral service and do not have access to the military base, please email gregory.volkman@us.af.mil with your full name and date of birth by Friday, Dec. 13, 2013. Jay will be laid to rest at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jay’s name to the NorthBay Cancer Center (http://foundation.northbay.org, Memo: NorthBay Cancer Center), Mission Solano (www.missionsolano.org), or to the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery Support Committee (www.svncsc.org).

What A Giant Loss! This Man Here Was A Great Doctor And Person. Very Compassionate Person. This Brings Tears To My Eyes. DR JAY Had Been Taking Care Of My Mother For The Last 20 + Years. Usually When You Go To The Doctor Its A Wait 1 Hour And Be Seen For Five Minutes, But Not With Dr JAY. He Always Listened To Your Concerns. If You Called The Doctor Office With A Problem He Would Always Call Back Within The Hour. I Pray For DR JAY'S Family As Well As DR JAY! DR EDWIN JAY HENRY Will Be Missed But Never Forgotten.

Jay was an outstanding PA and a most thorough and gentle healthcare provider to his patients. He treated my mother for many years as his own mother, and she loved him and depended on him. He even gave her his home phone number and urged her to call anytime she needed him. My husband, Blake, and Jay served as PA's together during their last years in the Air Force at the Primary Care Clinic at David Grant MC. He and his family are wonderful friends. Jay you will be sorely missed. We will continue to be inspired by your life of service and try to carry on, remembering your Christ-like example.

What a loss. Jay was not only my doctor, but my friend for over 20 years. He was compassionate, understanding, and caring. He always had a smile on his face and a positive outlook on life. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. May the family's great memories help them through this difficult period.

It was a terrible shock to read that Jay Henry had passed away. He was a wonderful health care provider who communicated to each patient that he really cared, and his knowledge and expertise were amazing. My husband and I consider losing him a huge loss; I can only imagine how immense the loss of such a person is for his family. Our hearts go out to you, and you are in our thoughts and prayers.
