Born Dorothy Louise McDowell in Aurora, Mo., Dorothy moved to Fairfield, Calif., in 1951 with husband, Walter. Dorothy raised five children and made many friends here in Fairfield.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Walter J. Taylor, USAF (Ret.), five children, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Lillie McDowell; and her three sisters, Jean, Francis and Virginia.
Dorothy passed away quietly on Tuesday afternoon at Vaca Valley Rehabilitation Center. Her sons Gary and Randy were by her side. Dorothy was a devoted wife, a loving mother, sister and friend.
My mother kept a garden, a garden of the heart.
She planted all the good things that gave my life its start.
She turned me to the sunshine, and encouraged me to dream.
Fostering and nurturing the seeds of self-esteem.
And when the winds and rain came, she protected me just enough.
But not too much, she knew I’d need to stand up strong and tough.
Her constant good example always taught me right from wrong.
Markers for my pathway to last my whole life long. I am my mother’s garden.
I am her legacy and I hope today she feels the love reflected back from me.
We love and miss you mother.
