DDeTomasi

Dec. 25, 1933 — Dec. 28, 2013

Donald was born on Christmas Day of 1933 in Vallejo, Calif., to Louie and Eva (Pam) DeTomasi.

Donald, known affectionately at one time or another as “Don,” “Donnie,” “DeeDee” and “Detoe,” was a Crockett boy through and through. He attended Carquinez Elementary School and played football at and graduated from John Swett High School. He worked part-time at Sugar City during junior high and high school, began working there full-time in 1952, and later became president/CEO of Sugar City.

Don was active in the East Bay business community and in many fraternal and charitable organizations: Italian Catholic Federation, Lions, Bass Club and Gluttons. Any time a fundraiser required cooking, Don would be in the kitchen – creating his ever popular cioppino or spaghetti and meatballs.

Don enjoyed traveling near and far – up the coast in his motorhome with his wife Louise, and his grandchildren, around the delta with his buddies, or to Europe with Louise and friends. He was an avid 49ers fan and an avid golfer. On Sunday afternoons during the season, he was with his family and friends in his seats on the 50-yard line. On Saturday afternoons, he was on the course at the Green Valley Country Club.

Don was always gracious, always welcoming – truly a man who never met a stranger. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Louise, of the family home in Green Valley; his sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Jack Rose of Crockett; his sons and daughters-in-law Tony and Roberta of Vacaville, Tim of Green Valley, Darin and Tiffany of Vacaville, Jeff and Line of Sebastapol, Donnie and Cathy of Fairfield, Daniel and Jeannie of Rodeo and Dennis and Dawn of Sutter; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the nurses of NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield and doctors Van Aken, Mitchell and Reuben for the care that they provided Donald during his final days and for the many kindnesses that they extended to his family and friends.

Anyone wishing to honor Don’s memory may donate to St. Rose of Lima Parish, 555 Third Ave, Crockett, CA 94525.

Don’s viewing will be from  4 to 8 p.m. Thursday,  Jan. 2, 2013, at Hosselkus Chapel, 1 Rolph Park Drive, Crockett. The funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2013, at St. Rose of Lima, 555 Third Ave., Crockett, with a reception immediately following. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Rockville Cemetery, 4219 Suisun Valley Road, Fairfield.
