Master Sgt. David Charles “Pops” Cruzen, USAF, Ret., 56, of Vacaville, passed away peacefully at David Grant Medical Center, Travis AFB, on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at 3:24 p.m.
Master Sgt Cruzen was born in Minnesota on Nov. 13, 1956. He grew up in Minnesota and New Jersey and graduated from Memorial High School in Houston, Texas, in 1975. After enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1975, he served four years as security policeman at Osan Air Base, South Korea. He then trained as an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) technician, serving the remaining eighteen years of his distinguished military career in that capacity. Duty stations included Osan Air Base and Kunsan Air Base in South Korea, Clovis AFB, N.M., Hickam AFB, Hawaii, Vandenberg AFB, Calif., and Travis AFB, where he retired as a master sergeant in 1998.
As a master EOD technician, Master Sgt. Cruzen worked extensively in numerous locations world-wide with EOD brothers from all branches of the U.S. military. He was awarded the ‘Royal Order of the Valiant Knight of Hardcore.’
David was the son on the late Donald Roger Cruzen, Dallas, Texas, and Kathleen Ann Bleeker, Green Bay, Wis. He is survived by his wife, Hyon-Sun (Helen) Hwang Cruzen; sons, Christopher Lee Cruzen, father of granddaughter, Nalani Marie Cruzen of San Francisco, Jimmy Roger (Melissa) Cruzen, parents of grandson, Andrew Quintans Cruzen of Fairfield, Dennis Andrew Cruzen of Alameda; siblings, Jeffrey Bruce (Kathryn) Cruzen, Cypress, Texas, Deborah Ann (Larry) Rose, Green Bay, Wis., Scott Steven (Geri) Cruzen, Milford, Pa., Sandra Christine Cruzen, Ashland, Wis.; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Cynthia Jean (Ron) Cruzen Simonton, Alexandria, Minn.
Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 20, 2013, Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W. Texas St., Fairfield. 425-4697. Burial with full military honors will take place in a private family service.
