Jan. 1, 1947 — Jan. 18, 2013

Charles Martell, 66, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, in Davis, Calif., with family at his side.

He was born Jan 1, 1947 in Chippewa Falls, Wis. He was the youngest child of George and Evelyn Martell.

He joined the Air Force in 1968 and served 22 years, retiring at Travis AFB in 1990. He also worked for the Daily Republic in many different positions, including delivering to the Green Valley area for nearly 30 years. He was a hard worker who never took a day off until forced to by hospitalization. He battled laryngeal cancer for four years and outlived doctors’ predictions by two years. He never gave up and always had hope. He was a kind-hearted man who could be called on to help anyone at any time, never expecting anything in return. He was very generous and delighted in gift-giving, especially spoiling his grandchildren.

He is survived by two brothers, Francis (Hjordis) Martell and George Martell, Jr.; four sisters, Cordelia (Wilmer) Rubenzer, Marjorie (Virgil) Paradise, Dorothy Bruhling and Beverly (William) Hansen. He also leaves behind his son, Charles Martell, Jr. (Reece) of Sacramento; and daughters, Melissa Costigan (Chad) and Tiffany Martell of Vacaville. He also had six grandchildren, Ciara, Megan, Christian, Colin, Desirae and Aleesa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Art and Donald; and sisters, Elizabeth and Rosemary.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.

Arrangements by Nadeau Family Funeral Home, www.nadeaufuneralhome.com, 445-7700.
