March 2, 1963 — Sept. 14, 2012

Brenda Kay Marrero, surrounded by her loving family, slipped peacefully into the arms of the Lord on September 14, 2012.

Brenda was born to Robert and Hannelore LeBrecht in Amarillo, Texas, on March 2, 1963. She grew up in an Air Force family, living in Wiesbaden, Germany; Otis AFB, Massachusetts; Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Tyndall AFB, Florida. In May 1984, she married the love of her life, 2nd Lt Frank Marrero, and they raised their children Efrain, Erika and Ethyn in locales ranging from Loring AFB, Maine, to Moreno Valley, California, finally settling in Vacaville, California.

After losing her precious first-born son, Efrain, to the ravages of anabolic steroids in September 2004, she dedicated her heart and soul to preventing the same tragedy from befalling other families. Brenda and Colonel Marrero started “The Efrain Anthony Marrero Foundation” in June 2005 and their tireless efforts touched the lives of thousands of young athletes across America.

Brenda was preceded in death by her son, Efrain, and is survived by her parents, Robert and Hannelore Lebrecht; her husband, Frank; her children, Erika and Ethyn; and her sisters, Marcia Umberger and Vickie Culver.

She was an adoring wife, a loving mother, an affectionate daughter, a caring sister and a steadfast friend. And now Heaven is blessed with a lovely angel.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the doctors, nurses and staff of Stanford Hospital, Unit F Ground for the tender and compassionate care they provided Brenda.

A viewing will be held at the Nadeau Family Funeral Home, 180 E. Monte Vista Ave., Vacaville, CA, on Wednesday, September 19 from 5 to 8 p.m.  The funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 350 Stinson Ave., Vacaville, CA, on Thursday, September 20 at 10 a.m. A cemetery service will follow immediately at the Vacaville Elmira Cemetery, 522 Elmira Road, Vacaville, CA. A reception celebrating Brenda’s life will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church immediately following the cemetery service.

Flowers may be sent to the Nadeau Family Funeral Home. Donations on Brenda’s behalf may be made by check to “The Efrain Anthony Marrero Foundation,” 2010A Harbison Drive, Suite 198, Vacaville, CA, 95687, or by credit card on the foundation website, www.nosteroids.org. In either case, please specify in the comments section “In memory of Brenda Marrero.”
