Billy C. Gribble was born Sept. 16, 1918, to Lauretta (Shirer) Gribble and William Gribble, and entered his eternal rest Nov. 27, 2013, at the age of 95.
He joined the Army Air Corp in 1939, serving with distinction in the 22nd bomb group in the South Pacific, New Guinea and part of the Red Raiders. He won the soldier’s medal during World War II. He retired as a chief master sergeant in the Air Force in 1963, having been in the first group to attain the rank. He then went to work at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, CA., until he retired in 1976 as a correctional lieutenant.
He was a charter member of WWII Memorial Museum in New Orleans La., he was a member of the VFW and the American Legion in Suisun City, CA., and a member of SIRS retirement group and the Monday morning breakfast club.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Esther L (Boyer) Gribble; son, Billy C. Gribble Jr. of Fairfield, Calif.; daughters, Lorry L. Galt of Rowland Heights, Calif., Sally A. Cuthbert of Pocatello, Idaho, and Florence K. Williams of Fairfield, Calif.; grandchildren, Bryan C. Gribble of Olympia, Wash., Tracy Galt and Alex Galt of Rowland Heights, Calif., Paul Cuthbert, Sherry L. Thornley, Sylvia Murch, Mindy Wilson, Jeremy Cuthbert, Jonathan Cuthbert and Lindia Cuthbert; plus 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his mother Lauretta, his brother Joe and numerous aunts and uncles.
He was a longtime member of Community United Methodist Church in Fairfield, Calif., having joined in 1953.
He will be interred at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, Calif.,
