Anthony Eugene “Gene” Gray, 70, passed away in Fairfield, Calif., on Jan. 12, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Gene was born in San Francisco on July 19, 1943, to James Kenneth Sr. and Lillian May (Klohn).

On Aug. 27, 1966, Gene was united in marriage with his childhood friend, Verna Mae (Pruitt), in Carson, Nev.

Gene joined the U.S. Marine Corp when he turned 18, completed a tour in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1963. He worked as a U.S. Postal letter carrier for almost 40 years.

He was a resident of Fairfield, Calif., for 40 years and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with leather. He loved to watch sports and the 49ers.

Gene is survived by his wife, Verna; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and William Bishop; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Pamela (Jones) and son Michael, all of Fairfield; grandchildren, Christopher, Brian, Kaitlyn, Ian and Kyle; and brother, James Kenneth Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Melvin Lee.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. Services are to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield, with Pastor Rick Stonestreet officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, Calif. 95620

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a California hospice, in memory of Gene.
