Angelo Vicente

April 7, 1923 — Nov. 30, 2013

Angelo Agustin Vicente passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Nov. 30, 2013. He was 90 years old.

Angelo was born on April 7, 1923, to Segundo and Margarita Vicente in Hermosa, Bataan, Philippines.

As a young man, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for his uncle’s lumber yard, clearing paths for trucks hauling logs from the mountains of Bataan. He later worked as a civilian contractor with the U.S. Navy Seabees, bulldozing and paving roadways and airstrips at the Subic Naval Base, Philippines. After his contract job ended, he returned home and farmed the family’s rice land.

In 1990, Angelo moved to Fairfield, Calif., to join his wife and live with one of his children. He took pride in his well-maintained garden and manicured lawn, helped care for two of his young great-grandchildren, who adored him dearly. He loved boxing, an avid fan of Manny Pacquiao and was a natural talent in singing and playing the guitar. Angelo was a caring gentleman always willing to help and never complained. He was well loved and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Angelo is preceded in death by his parents; and his younger brother, Jose Vicente of the Philippines.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Perla; his children, Sonia and Reynaldo Ferrer of Chula Vista, Calif., Day and Jun Cayanan of Fairfield, Calif., Yolanda and Antonio Jaring of Norfolk, Virginia; Rodrigo and Joyce Vicente of Virginia Beach Virginia; sister, Elena and brother-in-law Gaudencio Sabado of Anchorage Alaska; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at the Vaca Hills Chapel, 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville, Calif., 95687, 446-3233. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Holy Spirit Church, 1050 N. Texas Street, Fairfield, Calif., 94533, 425-3138, followed by entombment at All Souls Cemetery, 550 Glen Cove, Vallejo, Calif., 94591, 644-5209.
