Worker not seriously hurt by falling beam at Vacaville theater

VACAVILLE — An industrial accident Tuesday morning in downtown Vacaville could have been far worse.

The Vacaville Fire Department responded to a report at around 8:15 a.m. of a steel beam falling onto a construction worker at the downtown theater on the 300 block of Main Street. But things were not nearly so dire when crews arrived.

“They reported a guy was hit with a beam, but they actually canceled our medic and the guy refused transport,” said Battalion Chief Steve Bowman.

The worker complained of back pain initially, Bowman said, but was otherwise not hurt.

The theater is currently undergoing extensive renovations for a targeted opening this fall.
