VACAVILLE — A brush fire broke out and threatened at least one structure Thursday afternoon near downtown Vacaville.

Vacaville Fire Battalion Chief Steve Bowman said firefighters received a call of trees on fire here on Depot Street between Monte Vista Avenue and Mason Street.

“When I got on scene, we had a fire burning on trees, grass and a portion of a fence with a structure threatened,” he said.

Bowman said he asked for an additional engine company to protect the structures – a shed along the fence line, and the home beyond.

“Basically one engine company started knocking it down here the other one went over to the court, which I believe is (Alta Vista Drive),” Bowman said. “We’ll overhaul and do an investigation and figure out what might have caused it.”

Bowman said there were no injuries. His early estimate for damage to the fence was around $300. The fire burned directly under a utility pole. A representative of Pacific Gas & Electric Co. was on scene briefly.

“One of our engine company captains said it looked like the power lines took some heat damage,” Bowman said.
