Vacaville program gives affordable way to become energy-, water-efficient

VACAVILLE — Homeowners in Vacaville now have an affordable way to become energy- and water-efficient through a program called Home Energy Renovation Opportunity, also known as HERO.

The program finances 100 percent of the purchase and installation costs of various eligible products and then offers low, fixed interest rates and flexible payment options that include five-, 10-, 15- and 20-year terms for most products.

Repayments are made through property taxes. If the property is sold before the financing is paid back, the remaining payments can be passed on to the new property owner.

Contractors, who must be licensed and bonded with the Contractors State License Board, must also be registered with the program in order to be able to install HERO upgrades.

The four-step process includes finding out how much your home is approved for, choosing the right products and selecting a contractor, signing the finance documents and finishing the installation.

To find a registered HERO contractor or for more information, go to www.heroprogram.com/vacaville.
