Strong Female: When you state that Ms. Harris “threw a tantrum” you 1) really exaggerate, which detracts from your credibility, and 2) you are “stereotyping” big time in your own way. Finally, please tell me why any other “strong woman” would simply “graciously go along with the change”? If the change had been presented and discussed properly, I’m sure she would have, and that’s the point: it wasn’t. I would have been disappointed if she HADN’T reacted, because nobody wants a wimp running the city.

What has happened here is that Dilenna Harris has made this about her, and about her being singled out because she’s the only woman on the Council. I have a problem with this. As a professional woman trying to overcome the stereotypes women face in the workplace, the last thing I want to do is point out to my colleagues that I’m a female. Why draw attention to something that is irrelevant? In my opinion, Ms. Harris acted like the female that chauvinistic men would expect – she publicly threw a tantrum in December instead of graciously going along with the change. She ‘pulled the female card’ and has since recruited her fans to come speak on her behalf and berate the Mayor. Now she’s put us in a quandary. Many of us have no problem whatsoever with the term of Vice-Mayor being shortened to 1 year, and it has to start at some point. But since she’s made it about her, the two have become one – if we support the change in term then we don’t support her. Not so, Ms. Harris. Let’s move on and get on with the real issues of our community instead of ‘they’re picking on me’.
