Singer/songwriter competition returns to Vacaville

VACAVILLE — Downtown Vacaville’s Singer/Songwriters’ Competition will return to town, opening its fourth season of showcasing local vocal and songwriting talent at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at Fuso Italian Restaurant.

Organizers tweaked the seven-week-long competition by moving it to Wednesday nights to draw more people and eliminating the under-18 and over-18 categories to have all of the singers/songwriters compete in one group.

Every contestant still gets to perform one original song before a live audience at one of four downtown restaurants that will serve as the location of the weekly event.

The competition is open to all ages and allows solos, duos or trios with acoustic instruments. Contestants have to provide three copies of the song/lyrics to the judges. Each weekly winner will go onto a finals competition, which will be held on March 20 at the Opera House.

Registration starts at 6 p.m. each night and there is an entry fee which goes toward the weekly and finals prize. The winner gets a cash prize and will be the opening act for one of the Downtown Vacaville Business Improvement District’s musical events this year.

This year’s locations are Los Reyes Mexican Restaurant, Fuso Italian Restaurant, Mary Cornelison Photography, Blondie’s Bar & Grill and the Opera House.
