VACAVILLE — It’s time to hone the vocal pipes, dust off the guitar and double-check those song lyrics.
The Downtown Vacaville Business Improvement District is bringing back its annual Singer-Songwriters’ Competition, beginning Feb. 5.
The contest runs through March 19 and is open to all ages. Soloists, duos, trios and acoustic instruments are welcome.

The entry fee helps fund the prize pool. The winner of the finals gets $300 and will be the opening act for one of the downtown musical events in 2014. Second place finishers get $100; third place earns $50.
The competition will rotate between downtown venues, starting with the Vacaville Opera House. The finals at the new Theatre DeVille.
Registration begins at 6 p.m. and ends with 10 performers or at 6:50 p.m., which ever happens first.
Judging will be based on originality, presentation and performance. Contestants are asked to bring at least three copies of their song on the night they perform.
