VACAVILLE — This year’s Singer-Songwriter’s Competition kicks off its seven-week run at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at Fuso Italian Restaurant, 535 Main St., with local artists showing off both their songwriting and performing skills.
The competition wraps up March 20, when the finals take place at the Opera House at Main and Davis streets.
The competition is open to solo performers, duos and trios with acoustic instruments performing original music they have written. There is a $5 entry fee to sing one original song but that helps fund the prize money along the way. The winner will win a cash prize and will also be the opening act for a downtown musical event in 2013.
Each week’s location will rotate to another downtown business, including Fuso Restaurant, Los Reyes restaurant, Mary Cornelison’s Gas Lighters Theater and Blondies Sports Bar.
Signups each week start at 6 p.m. at the location and cut off at 15 performers or at 6:50 p.m. Judging will be based on originality, presentation and performance. Contestants should bring at least three copies of their song on the night they perform.
