VACAVILLE — A bicycle ride that started last year to raise awareness about the dangers of diabetes will return this week to Vacaville.
The sec0nd Annual Ride to Defeat Diabetes is scheduled Sunday at VacaValley Hospital, 1000 Nut Tree Road. It’s organized by NorthBay Healthcare, which operates the Vacaville hospital.
A 10-mile ride follows a path to the unincorporated area of Elmira, with the former Sierra Vista Elementary School as a rest stop. The route is designed for families and children. The 25-mile and 60-mile rides are for more serious cyclists. All rides will start at the hospital.
The 60-mile ride begins at 7:30 a.m., the 25-mile ride at 8 a.m. and the 10-mile ride starts at 10 a.m.
The 10-mile ride is free for children ages 16 and younger. Registration fees apply for all other riders along the 10-mile route, and for all riders on the longer courses. Register online at www.northbay.org/r2d2.
