VACAVILLE — A 55-year-old man was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek after an early morning accident Thursday on westbound Interstate 80, just west of Alamo Drive.
Harold London of Elk Grove was riding his 2006 Harley-Davidson about two car lengths behind a 2001 Toyota driven by Vihn Duc Ma of Elk Grove. Traffic began to slow and came to a stop, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
London was not able to stop, hit the back of Ma’s car and was thrown from the motorcycle, sustaining major injuries. Ma was not injured.
The accident happened about 7:50 a.m. and blocked the fast lane. Traffic was backed up on the Merchant Street overpass as drivers tried to get on the freeway. Traffic was bumper-to-bumper from the onramp to the accident site.
