While it sounds great about a full face helmet, the truth about all helmets to be DOT certified, helmets only have to be able to withstand a 14 MPH sideways impact. "Crash Tests" consist of dropping a helmet from a specific height until they can survive hitting the concrete without structural damage. A speed of 14 MPH is all that is required. It really doesn't matter much as your neck and other body parts break at speeds not much faster than that. He didn't die from the improper helmet. He died from blunt force trauma. The big rig driver should be held accountable.

I'm an avid Harley enthusiast in a family full of them, we try to convince everyone to ride with a full face helmet. It is really sad to see a life lost over something like that. Hopefully people make the change to a proper full face before they have to suffer something like this to a loved one or even lose their own life.

Condolences to the family.

@B-He was wearing a skull cap. As soon as I read about the accident, I googled Skull Caps, and I agree with you. I did read opinions of riders though, and not only do they like them, some riders said they would NOT wear a helmet at all, if they didn't have to. Silly people.

I believe he was wearing a skull cap. Time for riders to turn them in and go to a full face. It isn't worth your life.
