VACAVILLE — A fundraiser for a woman who needs a lung transplant is planned early next month at a Vacaville restaurant.
Donice Pinegar, 50, of Vacaville, accidentally inhaled pool chemicals in 1999 and lost 40 percent of her lung function within five minutes, according to information provided by the National Foundation for Transplants. Her lung function has since deteriorated.
Now she needs a lung transplant, which can cost approximately $550,000.
Even with health insurance, which will pay for the transplant itself, Pinegar faces significant medical expenses, other surgery and a lifetime of anti-rejection medications, according to the foundation.
Volunteers are planning a lunch and dinner Sept. 1 at Tahoe Joe’s, 1040 Helen Power Drive in Vacaville. Tickets must be purchased by Aug. 29.
