VACAVILLE — Firefighters from several agencies, including two Air Force bases, will use the former Opportunity House for a four-day fire training exercise this week.
The Vacaville Fire Department will use straw and shredded paper on wooden pallets to start fires in different rooms of the structure at 712 Catherine St., according to a press release from the city of Vacaville.
Crews from Solano County, as well as Beale and Travis Air Force bases, will work on extinguishing the fires in the exercise that is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The home itself will not be burned down.
The Fire Department notified residents of this exercise in early March, according to the press release. Residents will have full access to their properties at all times, but should keep their doors and windows closed during the training. Fire officials will be on hand to answer questions.
All interior burns will meet guidelines set by the National Fire Protection Agency, and instructors on site are certified by California State Fire Training.
