VACAVILLE — The Solano County Coroner’s Office identified the driver who died in Monday morning’s single-car accident on westbound Interstate 80 near the Mason Street offramp as 25-year-old San Francisco man Brandon Bernier.

The California Highway Patrol is still trying to determine why the rented 2012 Mitsubishi Gallant that Bernier was driving left the highway at 8:25 a.m. and crashed into a tree, killing him and moderately injuring his passenger, a 25-year-old San Francisco woman.

The woman was flown by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center to be treated. The accident forced the CHP to close one lane of I-80 and backed up traffic to Interstate 505.
