VACAVILLE — A big-rig dump truck overturned on southbound Interstate 505 just before the Interstate 80 interchange, Saturday afternoon, causing the freeway to be shut down for nearly four hours.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic management center, other motorists helped the male driver out of the truck, which spilled its load of mud and dirt across both lanes of the freeway.
The first calls came in at 3:09 p.m., and CHP officers were on scene about six minutes later.
An ambulance was called for the driver, who was transported to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vacaville with moderate injuries, including a laceration to the head.
CalTrans was called to the scene to clean up the spilled dirt.
One lane was opened at 6:30 p.m., and the whole roadway was opened at 7:15 p.m.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, according to CHP.
