SUISUN CITY — Organizers of Solano County’s 2013 Women’s History Luncheon have named Marilyn Hopkins as this year’s honorary chairwoman.
Hopkins is the provost and chief operating officer of Touro University in Vallejo. She oversees daily administration of the 1,500-student campus in Vallejo. She joined the university in 2009 after serving as dean of the College of Health and Human Services at California State University, Sacramento. She earned her doctorate degree in nursing science from UC San Francisco.
Hopkins is a licensed registered nurse and has been active in community activities that benefit children and families. She was a nursing faculty member at CSU Sacramento for 23 years. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Northern California chapter of the Office of Women in Higher Education associated with the American Council on Education.
The 2013 National Women’s History Month theme is “Women Inspiring Innovation through Imagination.” According to a press release, the objective of the event is to honor generations of women through American history who used their intelligence, imagination, sense of wonder and tenacity to make extraordinary contributions to the fields of science, math and technology.
The event is set for 11:30 a.m. March 22 at the Joseph A. Nelson Community Center, 611 Village Drive.
