Suisun puts off decision on Walters Road development

By From page A6 | August 20, 2014

SUISUN CITY — The decision on whether to approve retail and family housing development on the southeast corner of Walters Road and East Tabor Avenue was tabled Tuesday night by the Suisun City Council.

The council tabled the item to its Sept. 16 meeting after the city was informed by the Airport Land Use Commission it had to take action first on the proposed 8.6-acre development.

The Zephyr Estates project would see the construction of 59 single-family residential homes and 1.5 acres of retail construction.

Suisun City’s General Plan originally zoned the site for 6 acres of general commercial and 2.6 acres of high-density residential development. The council is looking to change the site’s zoning to 7.1 acres of medium-density residential and 1.5 acres of general commercial development.

The site had remained vacant because of the proximity of the Aero Club on Travis Air Force Base, but when it closed in 2006, the site became more lucrative for development. It is still subject to approval by the Airport Land Use Commission because of its proximity to Travis. The commission is expected to take up the matter at its Sept. 11 meeting.

The plan was given the go-ahead July 22 by the city’s Planning Commission.
