Suisun council to vote on sex offenders ordinance

By
July 01, 2014 |

SUISUN CITY — The city council will also vote on repealing portions of the municipal code dealing with the sex offenders’ proximity to childrens’ facilities at its regular meeting Tuesday.

A staff report noted that two state appeals courts recently found that similar ordinances in Orange County and Irvine were void because they were preempted by state laws regulating sex offenders.

On April 8, the city received a letter from the American Civil Liberties Union requesting an immediate appeal of the city’s sex offender ordinance based on the court of appeals decisions.

The letter then went on to say the city could avoid litigation costs by agreeing to repeal or stop enforcement of the code.

Staff recommends passing the ordinance.

A special meeting at 6 p.m. precedes the regular meeting at 7 p.m. Both are in the council chambers at 701 Civic Center Blvd.

The complete agenda can be found at www.suisun.com.

None of the legality of this came up when it was passed? Where was the city attorney with advice? We don't want those creeps anywhere close to kids, I don't care if they are "reformed" because they aren't, they are just sneakier then they where. We should mark their living quarters with a big red X on the street in front, easy to see on goggle maps. Better yet, tell them we don't want them here, quit being PC, doesn't work, you may say you don't mind them living here but you really don't like it

Clearly our "justice system" and "court system" is not protecting us from these perverts. If you are a 290 registrant YOU ARE NOT WANTED IN OUR COMMUNITY. The ACLU is a joke!!!! I agree that being PC and assuming the criminal justice system is protecting us from 290s is not working!

Really? You guys have to vote on whether or whether not to enforce a sex offender law?! Really? I don't even have kids and I'm offended.
