SUISUN CITY — The Suisun City Council will start putting together its 2014-15 general fund budget with a Tuesday night workshop.
Suisun City’s financial situation is better than it was a year ago, according to the mid-year budget report that the council was handed in February.
At that time, the city was seeing $689,100 more in revenue than it anticipated in the 2013-14 fiscal year budget flowing into its coffers. But the council was warned not to rest easy because of two fiscal challenges that the city has had to struggle with.
One is a year-long delay in the opening of the Walmart Supercenter under construction on the east side of Suisun City, which is pushed back an anticipated inflow of sales tax income from the store. The other is the ongoing legal battle between Suisun City and the state Department of Finance over a $1.75 million repayment to the city from its former redevelopment agency.
The City Council is expected to have a clearer view of what will happen with Walmart and the status of the legal struggle with the state when it meets Tuesday night.
