Sound wall project may require new bids

By From page A7 | March 16, 2014

SUISUN CITY — City Council members will be asked Tuesday to approve a resolution to reject all bids for the Petersen Road North Sound Wall Project. The resolution will also authorize the city manager to put the project up for bid again.

The project calls for a 6-foot-tall precast concrete sound wall along the north side of Petersen Road from Walters Road to a point about 300 feet west of Fulmar Drive. The wall is estimated to be about 1,128 feet long. The cost of the wall will be covered by mitigation fees the city got from the business developing the lot south of the project.

Bids were opened in January and were read Feb. 27. Contractors and sound-wall vendors expressed concerns with the specifications. Bids were higher than expected. City staff suggests rejecting all bids and revising the project specifications. After that, the project would be re-open to bids.

In other action:

  • A special meeting of the council begins at 5:30 p.m. A conference with legal counsel concerning existing legislation is on the agenda. Council members are also slated to resume the evaluation of city manager Suzanne Bragdon, which is being continued from the March 11 special meeting.

The regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. Both meeting take place in the City Council chambers at 710 Civic Center Blvd. The complete agenda can be found at www.suisun.com.
