SUSIUN CITY — For the second time in two weeks, the City Council will take up the issue of awarding a contact for a roofing job at the senior center.
Council members were slated to vote on the issue at their Sept. 18 meeting. City staff recommended the job go to Solano County Roofing, Inc. citing that the other bid, from Northwest Roofing and Waterproofing, Inc., did not meet the qualifications as the company lacked a Class B contractor’s license.
Brian Williams of Northwest appealed the staff’s suggestion, saying his company had not received a timely notice of protest from Solano County Roofing, Inc. He also said that a Class B license should not have been required as part of the bid specifications.
Williams also said that since there was only one other contractor bidding for the job, with the Northwest bid throw out, there was a noncompetitive bidding situation. He said Solano County Roofing’s bid should also be thrown out.
After reviewing the challenge, city staff still recommends the council approve the bid from Solano County Roofing. The company’s bid is $55,900.
The roof work is the first of a two-phase project to remodel the 25-year-old senior center. The remodel is being paid for with funds from a Community Development Block Grant.
The council meets at 7 p.m. at the Suisun City council chambers, 701 Civic Center Blvd.
