SUISUN CITY — A group practiced the “Fitness Shuffle” at the Kroc Center Saturday during a rally for the upcoming SoFitCity challenge.
The countywide competition pits city against city and is slated for Sept. 28. The Solano County city with the most participants wins the challenge, and Suisun City hopes to defend its title of SoFitCity.
Jessica Adele, editor of Solano Fit Magazine and co-director of the race, was having a good time at the rally.
“(We’re) helping out Suisun City getting the word out to defend their city,” Adele said.
The Kroc Center, a sponsor of SoFitCity, boasted activities for all ages Saturday. A couple of bounce houses were inflated for children and an obstacle course was ready for use.
“We have many things happening for different interests,” said Michael Brito, director of operations at the Kroc Center.
Kroc Center group exercise instructor Rochelle Henderson Reed led the charge as dance participants warmed up a couple of weeks before the main event. Reed is a new instructor at the Kroc and leads the Fitness Shuffle class, which features the popular “Cupid Shuffle” tune by hip-hop artist Cupid.
Participant Kirsten Doherty, whose husband is in the Air Force, said she loves the Kroc.
“I had a baby about 1½ years ago, and I wanted to lose all my baby weight.” Doherty lost the weight.
SoFitCity will feature a 5- and 10-kilometer timed race and includes a Family Fun Mile at Solano Town Center, 1350 Travis Blvd. Categories are runner, walker and team. Wheelchairs and strollers are allowed in the 5K race.
Proceeds from the SoFitCity challenge benefit the Solano County Library Foundation and other nonprofits.
