SUISUN CITY — The Solano Land Trust is looking for people who want to volunteer as docents to lead tours at Rush Ranch open space in Suisun Marsh.
Docent training takes place both indoors and outdoors at Rush Ranch, 3521 Grizzly Island Road, two miles south of Suisun City. The training is eight days: Tuesdays, Oct. 1, 8, 15 and 22 and Saturdays, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Exact times are to be determined, but Tuesday trainings will occur in the evening.
Topics include the functions of marshes, why the tidal marsh at Rush Ranch is unique, adaptations of marsh plants and animals, planning and leading a marsh tour, and safety. Perfect attendance is encouraged but not required. The training program is free. Donations are appreciated, a Land Trust press release said.
Docents lead walking tours alongside the tidal marsh and offer educational activities at Rush Ranch year-round. Tours are scheduled based on docent availability and public interest. They are often offered the third Saturdays of the month, as part of a series called “Get the Rush.”
