SUISUN CITY — A fast-moving, two-alarm fire gutted a two-story Suisun City house late Sunday morning.
No one was home at the time. Two dogs were rescued by Suisun City police from the backyard.
The house is on the 400 block of Pintail Drive. Many neighbors called it the “Halloween House” because the residents went all out in decorating it for Halloween. A few of the life-size creepy figures survived, safely tucked in a corner of the garage.
The call came in about 11:10 a.m. Police quickly evacuated a neighboring house. The fire did not spread.
“We’re not sure what happened,” said Suisun City Fire Chief Mike O’Brien. “When we got here it was fully involved.”
The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Sunday evening.
“It’s probably close to a total loss,” said O’Brien, citing “severe structural damage.”
Suisun City firefighters got help from the Fairfield Fire Department, Suisun Fire Protection District and the Cordelia Fire Protection District covered calls from the fire station down the street on Pintail. Travis Air Force Base sent its air truck.
O’Brien estimated there were 16 or 17 firefighters at the scene.
Pintail Drive was blocked off for about three hours between Golden Eye Way and Blossom Avenue.
Neighbor Eva Kliss looked on as firefighters carried items out of the home. She saw the flames from Highway 12 and was worried it was her house.
“It’s completely gutted,” she said, getting a peek of the house between two fire trucks. She was one of the neighbors who enjoyed the Halloween decorations.
“We would always go and look at the stuff (on display),” she said.
Richard Florez, who lives across the street, said he ran across with a fire extinguisher but could do little because flames were too big, almost as tall as the fire engines, he said.
Prior to seeing the flames, Florez said he was in his backyard, which faces the house, and heard a loud popping noise.
The Red Cross was on scene to help the family. Neighbors said four children and two adults lived in the house.
