SUISUN CITY — Firefighters quickly extinguished a kitchen fire Friday on the 200 block of Leafwood Court.
The fire broke out at about 12:45 p.m. Suisun City Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Dennis said an occupant in the backyard saw the fire and called 911. Heavy smoke was coming out of the house when firefighters arrived, with flames contained to the kitchen and the stove-cabinet area.
“It was knocked down within a minute of arrival,” Dennis said.
The kitchen area sustained damage from the fire and the house sustained smoke damage, Dennis said. The occupants had to find other lodgings for the night. Dennis said that, besides the smoke damage, the gas and electricity to the house was turned off.
No fire damage to the two-story house could be seen from the front street. A mylar balloon hung out the open second story window. Rain fell as firefighters wearing breathing apparatus came out of the house.
