Deadline nears for fireworks sales permit applications

By From page A3 | January 29, 2013

SUISUN CITY — Qualifying nonprofit groups have until Feb. 4 to apply for one of the three fireworks sales permits.

Applications are available at the city manager’s office in City Hall, 701 Civic Center Blvd., or the fire station, 621 Pintail Drive, or at www.suisun.com/departments/fire-department/fireworks-sales.

A Feb. 10 drawing in the City Council chamber will determine the groups that receive the permits.

This is the second year that safe-and-sane fireworks can legally be sold in Suisun City. The 2012 sales provided enough income to fund this year’s Independence Day celebration.

For more information about fireworks sales, call Fire Chief Mike O’Brien at 421-7205.

Why does Suisun allow this and Fairfield does not? You can drive around this city and see neighborhood displays of fireworks. What sense does it make to sell locally but not let the "city next door" legally use them? It would be nice if Fairfield allowed fireworks sales or at least changed the law that prevents residents from using them.
