FAIRFIELD — A local winery plans to introduce its new cuvée April 6 at a fundraiser to benefit Meals on Wheels of Solano County.
Galvan Family Cellars will release County Line Cuvée Wine, which was developed for Mankas Steakhouse, at an event to support the organization that helped a housebound friend who was ill, according to Meals on Wheels Executive Director Cathy Hall in a press release.
A fee, a portion which benefits Meals on Wheels of Solano, includes a cuvee tasting and three-course meal with a wine variety chosen by the chef. The tasting starts at 5 p.m. and dinner starts at 6 p.m. at Mankas Steakhouse, 2522 Mankas Corner Road.
Approximately 145 Meals on Wheels of Solano County volunteers distribute about 650 meals each weekday to senior centers and to the homes of seniors.
The organization operates with an annual budget of about $900,000 – but lost $30,000 because of automatic federal spending cuts known as sequestration. That led to service cuts. For example, Meals on Wheels cut from five to three the number of meals served each week at the Suisun City Senior Center. Fundraisers are now the order of the day for the organization, Hall said.
County Line Cuvée Wine will also be available for purchase at Wooden Valley Winery, 4756 Suisun Valley Road.
