FAIRFIELD — Volunteers are sought to help families prepare taxes as part of the Earn It! Keep It! Save It! program.
The program helps to low- to moderate-income taxpayers file their taxes for free. It is put on by the Children’s Network of Solano County, the United Way of the Bay Area and the Internal Revenue Service. In Solano County last year, volunteers helped file more than 4,000 tax returns.
People from all walks of life can volunteer, a Children’s Network press release said. It mentioned college students, law students, homemakers, retirees and business people as examples. Bilingual volunteers are needed to serve as interpreters.
Volunteers choose from 20 sites depending on where they live and how many hours they would like to commit. They need not have any experience. They must attend three training sessions scheduled Jan. 4, 11 and 18, 2014.
