FAIRFIELD — The Solano County Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 to decide if Glashoff Farms in Suisun Valley can keep its use permit to hold weddings and other events.
County staff had proposed a 2 p.m. hearing, which would be in keeping with the board’s practice of meeting in the mornings and afternoons. But Supervisor Skip Thomson said the board should have a rare night meeting so more people can attend.
“This is an important appeal, at least from the calls and emails I received,” Thomson said.
His colleagues agreed. Supervisor John Vasquez said the board previously held a night meeting for the controversial Rockville Trails Estates project and the room was packed.
Glashoff Farms is located at 5353 Williams Road in upper Suisun Valley near the Napa County line. It grows berries, prunes, walnuts, oranges and other crops. It got a permit from the county zoning administrator in May to offer special events.
But some neighbors objected. They said the amplified sound at night is too loud for the rural area and that the events bring too much traffic to a narrow, dead-end road with a blind curve.
The Planning Commission heard an appeal Aug. 15 and decided by a 3-2 vote that Glashoff Farms can keep its special events permit, though it made changes to the original permit.
The commission decided to allow the Glashoffs to host 12 events annually. Two events can have 160 to 200 guests, three events 120 to 159 guests, three events 75 to 119 guests and four events 74 or fewer guests.
Amplified sound must be turned off by 10 p.m. on weekends and 7:30 p.m. on weekdays, with the exception of some holidays. The four smaller events can have no amplified sound. The Glashoffs must have people with flags at two locations to guide traffic on Williams Road. There are other conditions as well.
Friends of Williams Road had attorney M. Kendall Hillman of Hillman & Lucas write a letter submitted along with the appeal. The group has proposed additional conditions to the permit, Hillman wrote. Among them are limiting events to 10 annually, three with 150 guests or fewer, three with 100 guests or fewer and four with 75 guests or fewer.
