FAIRFIELD — County Supervisor Jim Spering on Tuesday said he remains undecided about whether he will run for a third term in 2014.
Suisun City Mayor Pete Sanchez said two weeks ago that he is considering running for Spering’s 3rd District Board of Supervisors seat. But he would do so only if Spering decided not to run, Sanchez said. He cited his long political and personal association with Spering as the reason.
He’s still weighing is options, Spering said. He will make an announcement in January, possible toward the end of the month, he said.
Spering served as Suisun City mayor from 1986 to 2006, when he was elected to the county Board of Supervisors over former Fairfield Mayor Karin MacMillan. He was re-elected in 2010 with no opponent.
The 3rd District seat will be on the June 3, 2014, primary election ballot. If no one wins more than 50 percent of the vote, the two top vote-getters would face off in the November 2014 election.
Candidates for the June 3, 2014, elections have a deadline of March 7, 2014, to file nomination papers.
Also on the June 2014 ballot will be the Solano County Board of Supervisors 4th District seat held by John Vasquez since January 2003. Vasquez has made no public announcement on whether he will run for re-election.
