Spare the Air alert issued for Saturday

FAIRFIELD — The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued a Spare the Air Alert for Saturday, which prohibits burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors for 24 hours.

Homes without permanently installed heating, where wood stoves or fireplaces are the only source of heat, are exempt.

First-time violators can take a wood smoke awareness class, online or by mail, to learn about the hazards of wood smoke pollution in lieu of paying a penalty. Second violations will result in a $500 ticket.

This alert has been called due to a regional high pressure system across the Bay Area this weekend. Air pollution levels are expected to rise and reach unhealthy levels on Saturday. Vallejo, Benicia, Fairfield and Suisun City are in the Bay Area Quality Management District. The rest of Solano County is not.

Sorry JazzAzz. I agree with you completely except they do have a way to extract punishment from you. Don't pay your citation, then it's sent to court. Don't go to court, then it's a Failure to Appear (FTA). Get a few FTA's, then it's a warrant for your arrest. That means the cops can bust into your warm home and take you out by force. If you continue to resist, they will shoot you dead. So, the ultimate penalty for non-compliance with the Police State is your death. As a society, we've given them the means and the moral authority to do just that. It's BS and it's a violation of natural law. Whether it's you lying dead on the floor of your toasty frontroom or millions slaughtered at the hand of their own government, tyranny is ALWAYS wrong. I thought cops took an oath to guard against tyranny... not enforce it.

Any evidence that it would become a judicial matter??? I don't see that. First how are they going to give you a citation, personally hand it to you at your door??? Don't answer!!!! Send it by certified, RETURN RECEIPT mail??? I doubt that too, since you never even get sent your Jury duty summons that way. Who's to prove you got one?? I still say SCREW THEM. They can KISS THIS!!!!!!
