Solano County seeks new Health and Social Services leader

FAIRFIELD — Solano County for the second time within a year is looking for a Health and Social Services director.

Ann Edwards spent her last day in the position Thursday.

She took over as Health and Social Services director in August 2013, making her tenure a brief one. She came to the county from a job as chief deputy county executive for Countywide Services in Sacramento County and now returns to Sacramento County to work in the Department of Human Assistance.

“I greatly underestimated the toll the commute would take on me and my family,” Edwards wrote in her April 17 resignation letter. “As you know, I came to Solano to return to the work I love leading a health and social services department. Had an opportunity to lead such a department in Sacramento existed, I would have stayed.”

Former Solano County Health and Social Services Director Patrick Duterte will step back into the role on an interim basis, county Administrator Birgitta Corsello said. Duterte left the post last summer after 12 years on the job.

Now Solano County is once again searching for someone to lead a department with a $285 million budget and more than 1,100 employees. The department’s tasks include administering public assistance programs, running health clinics and providing child welfare and mental health programs.

Corsello said she expect the county will fill the post this fall.

well I was wondering who was in charge of this county's social services. I have been calling the elder abuse hotline and the in-home care services for the longest without getting a response. I was just about to go to my rep. to see if they could help me get a response. perhaps I can get Patrick's attention with this message. I even went up to the office and was told I couldn't speak to anyone in person. I would have to call and leave a message. well I have been waiting for a return call for over a year now.
