The week aheadSUISUN CITY — Area residents are invited to welcome the summer solstice with a hike at Rush Ranch.

Hikers will learn about the summer ecosystems of Suisun Marsh and Rush Ranch on the longest day of the year. The free event is from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Children should be 7 and older. The route will include some slight elevation changes and uneven ground.

Participants are encouraged to bring water and snacks and wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Binoculars, cameras, sunscreen and insect repellent are suggested.

There is no pre-registration required, but a red-flag fire warning will cancel the hike. Call 745-8322 for more information or to confirm.

Meet the guide in the brick courtyard and native plant garden next to the Nature Center exhibit. Rush Ranch is at 3521 Grizzly Island Road, about 2 miles south of the Highway 12, opposite Sunset Avenue.
