FAIRFIELD — Christmas events in Fairfield and Suisun City will go on rain or shine, while Rio Vista’s celebration has been postponed.
It might be rain. The National Weather Service expects storms to soak the area in coming days. Predictions on Wednesday called for rain Thursday evening turning to scattered showers by Friday evening and a final front pushing through Saturday night, so the Christmas events have at least a chance to avoid the expected periods of heavy rainfall.
The Fairfield event begins at 6 p.m. Friday with candlelight caroling at Madison and Texas streets. The tree-lighting ceremony begins at 6:15 p.m. The evening is to include performances, visits with Santa Claus, face painting and a Candy Land Scavenger Hunt for children age 13 and younger.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s raining, we’re going to have our festivities regardless,” said Margaret Manzo, executive director of the Fairfield Main Street Association.
Suisun City’s Christmas at the Waterfront is from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday. The day is to include 40 craft booths, wagon rides, entertainment and a boat parade with Santa Claus arriving by boat.
“Bring an umbrella and get a cup of hot chocolate and we’ll be fine,” said Linda Feins, president of the Suisun City Waterfront Historic Business Improvement District.
Organizer Brenda Mossa said she expects 50 vendors. As of Wednesday morning, none had canceled and one had called to reassure her they would there. Mossa said she’s hoping the rain won’t fall as hard Saturday as it did Wednesday morning.
“Just bring an umbrella and smiles,” she said. “You’ll have a great time.”
The Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce canceled its holiday parade that was scheduled at 5 p.m. Saturday. The tree-lighting ceremony that was to follow has been rescheduled for 5:15 p.m. Dec. 6.
The Soroptimist International of Rio Vista will have its home tour at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, and the Rio Vista Museum will host an Olde Tyme Christmas Fair at 11 a.m. that day.
