Public invited to hear works from poet laureates

BENICIA — Poet laureates from around the state will read their works Sunday in Benicia.

The public is invited to listen, participate, share some food and even try writing some poetry. The event begins at noon with a picnic and should end about 3:30 p.m. It will take place at the Benicia City Park, corner of First and Military streets.

Poet laureates scheduled to attend are David Swanger, Santa Cruz County; Debee Loyd and Gillian Wegener, Modesto; Alegra Silberstein, Davis; Mary Rudge, Alameda; Russell Gonzaga, Lake County; Juanita Martin, Fairfield; Gary Silva, Napa; and Joel Fallon, Robert Shelby and Lois Requist, Benicia.

Those attending are asked to bring picnic food to share, a folding chair or blanket. For information, call 280-0588 or 419-2408.
